Conventions of Film Openings

The conventions of a film opening: 


  •  Leaves us asking questions about what will happen
  • Shows a title sequence
  • Titile of the film
  • Key characters may be introduced 
  • Setting/location may be introduced
  • Company idents at the beginning
  • Communicate the genre to the audience

The classical film opening:

This opening goes starts off with a wideshot city scape, it then zooms into a wideshot building, then into a shot f the window, it continues to zoom into the inside of the building, where we meet the main characters of the film.
This opening is shown in films such as Psycho, American Beauty and North By Northwest.
